"Article L131–1–1 The right of the child to the purpose of the instruction is to guarantee, on the one hand, the acquisition fundamental instruments of knowledge, basic knowledge, elements of general culture and, depending on the choices, training professional and technical and, on the other hand, education allowing you to develop your personality, raise your level of initial and continuing education, to integrate into social life and professional and to exercise one’s citizenship. Compulsory instruction can be given either in establishments or public or private schools, either in families by parents, or one of them, or any person of their choice. The people responsible for a child subject to compulsory education, defined in article L. 131–1 must have it registered in an establishment public or private education, or declare to the mayor and the academy inspector, director of departmental services national education, that they will make him give instruction in the family. In this case, an annual declaration is required. The same formalities must be completed within eight days following any change of residence or choice of education. The current obligation applies from the start of the school year of the calendar year where the child reaches the age of six.
